South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA)
Problem Statement
The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) approached CMC in 2021 to help it counter accusations of racism, damage to its reputation and withstand significant political pressure over its refusal to licence COVID vaccinations from China and Russia.
Our Solution
In addition to organising a media conference to unpack the registration process of registering drugs, CMC produced an infographic that simply explained the process as well as video clips of the press conference that could be posted on social media.
CMC also secured media interviews for SAHPRA.
Results
CMC secured 115 pieces of media coverage for SAHPRA.
CMC live tweeted the media briefing and published posts relating to the news announcements. In that week, SAHPRA’s page garnered 492 followers, 1 462 tweet mentions, 22.4K profile visits and 424K tweet impressions.
More importantly, the narrative around SAHPRA’s processes and the registering of drugs transformed from negative to neutral and positive, and the reputation and stature of SAHPRA’s leadership was enhanced.
